The Harare Institute of Public health Academic Council is proud to welcome Ms. Batsirai Mbodza, a dedicated Public Health Specialist with extensive experience in technical, operational, and administrative leadership across preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives.
As the Southern Africa Regional Lead for the Africa CDC, Ms. Mbodza plays a pivotal role in advancing public health across the region. She served as the Africa CDC’s Mpox Incident Manager in Angola, where she supported the country’s response to a cholera outbreak through vaccine delivery, surveillance, capacity-building, and infection control effort.
In Zimbabwe, she provided substantial technical support during the development and launch of the National Event-Based Surveillance (EBS) Guidelines, emphasizing that, “guidelines alone are not enough, real impact lies in implementation.” These guidelines are intended to establish a real-time early warning system, strengthening health security across the nation.
Ms. Mbodza holds a Master of Public Health and is pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) at Teesside University in the UK. Her previous roles span the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe, UNICEF, and WFP, demonstrating both technical proficiency and collaborative approach to public health challenges
