Let's fight against drug abuse

In Collaboration With Drug-Free World Organization

We, as the Harare Institute of Public Health, have partnered with The Truth About Drugs, a non-profit public health corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions.

What We Have to Offer

We offer free courses related to The Truth About Drugs campaign and provide materials for people who may want to be a part of this campaign and courses. Effective drug education resources include videos, booklets, and other teaching aids that grab the attention of young people, keeping them involved and leaving them informed. With this information, they can make the decision to live drug-free.

What We Need

We would like to ask for donations to make this campaign and programme more accessible and mobile, no matter the location.

We intend to reach out around Zimbabwe, and for that, we would like to ask for any possible donations.
We also plan on making all the material provided available in all languages, including Shona and Ndebele.
Any donations can be sent to 70 Park Lane, Harare, Zimbabwe. Or email us at info@hiph.ac.zw for more information.

Who We Offer It To

This programme and campaign aim to reach out to areas, schools, and people heavily affected by drug abuse as well as those at high risk of drug abuse, both in Zimbabwe and outside of Zimbabwe. The course and programme are FREE and available online as well.

Affected areas include Harare, townships, urban areas, Bulawayo, most high schools, and universities. Our aim is to reach out to everyone, regardless of gender, age, financial status, and sexuality, and to spread awareness and make a difference.

Three out of five parents in Zimbabwe need affordable rehab facilities, but this is proving to be a problem as most rehab facilities are expensive and based only in Harare, Ruwa, Goromonzi, Mutare, and Bulawayo, which makes them inaccessible for most people seeking help.

Many parents have resorted to sending their children affected by drug abuse to prison. Theft is usually the offence at hand, committed to sustain their drug intake, but some become too violent. Parents often opt to have them arrested in the hopes that time in prison will help with the addiction and that the drugs will wear off as there won’t be any drugs in prison. However, is this really effective? Prisons have counselling, yes, but is it really effective in sustaining recovery when they go back to the outside world? Once they leave prison, it is rare for them to get follow-up services, which in most cases causes a relapse, creating a cycle. We want to change that. We want to make an effective difference. We do not want it to end with just awareness. We want to tackle the problem and put an end to it.

Our goal as the Harare Institute of Public Health, in collaboration with The Drug-Free World, is to prevent and put a stop to drug abuse. We want to provide awareness not only to people who are affected by this but also to guardians, parents, and anyone who may be considering drugs. We want to bring awareness and action to the idea that “one snort of cocaine won’t hurt.” We want people to see that one snort of cocaine affects not only you but your loved ones as well. It does not matter who you are, what you do, or where you are from. We are here to show you that you matter and that you are safe with us.
